Game Development Club
In the Spring of 2024, I became involved with the game development club at my school. A lot of the stuff we worked on was very exciting and lead me to want to work more with asset creation for video games. Our first project was to work on a reimagining for Tic Tac Toe. We were separated into different teams. I was the sole artist for my team, with the club attracting other students from other tracks around the school. We decided on a Medieval/Knight theme, and wanted to expand the board to a 4x4 square rather than the traditional 3x3. With this, I was tasked with creating both the X, O, and the board...

After that, we started a full collaborative project. A tactical JRPG with an retro anime aesthetic. The group decided upon 3 characters that the players would use to fight other enemies. This meant creating 2d sprites for both the enemies and the characters themselves. 3 of us artists were tasked with creating the different characters. I was given the prompt of a "cat femboy with boxing gloves as a weapon." I started out with sketches of ideas and shared those with the group.

When starting out, one of the hurtles I faced was trying to tack down the style with my other devs. I consulted with the leaders of the group, and followed the feedback given to my initial designs. this involved receiving a new color palette, as well as reducing the proportions and stylization down to a semi "chibi" level.

After some back and forth with the team, we came up with a final look for our boxer...

Taking the drawing from above, I drew a block out of the shapes and used that to create an ink illustration of the character. (As seen below.) The final model sheet was ready, and was to be used to help create animated sprites for the game.
